Hi Sam! I found you through your being on OG Rose’s The Net, for which I’m also a member. I really enjoyed this piece, and felt seen for something most people don’t understand and I have felt guilty for a long time. It’s caused me to reflect on why I seem to feel the vacation dread. For me, it seems to be a result of a dissonance between how I seek to spend vacations and how my family and others do. I want vacations to serve as portals to different worlds, where I can encounter novelty and take new perspectives back to my life, enriching it in the process. I also love rest, but I think many people conflate rest with lethargy. My family oft engages in the latter.

I wonder if the dread is the price of substantive positive change. Like the arrows of despair have to shoot out to make way for the arrows of desire to emerge. Anyways, great post and I’d love to connect with you further. Your writings are really insightful

Nice to make your acquaintance! The NET is such a great way to meet people. Mmmm ya, I find also the whole like mode of talking about vacations with people where I find this discrepancy another very tedious dimension to sharing your travels. But at the same time it can be lonely to go solo. There’s lots to dread with tourism hahaha. Thank you, yes that would be lovely.

This is a pretty good piece! I also don't like travel. Most people are confused by this.

With you, it seems like a vacation takes you away from your comfort zone to enough of a degree where it's no longer fun. Everyone has worries, but for you they're amplified and it's like you're going on a roller coaster and gripping on the railing. So if you have that experience, you're not having fun at all. It's mostly terror and dread

I don't like to travel because it always seems pointless. It's like how some people like their sport and can't stop talking about it. To me it's like that

I have oft suspected i could be designated as a highly sensitive person. But more specifically it’s before the trip that I feel it.
